Following your MIAM, there are two main paths

Proceed with Mediation

If both you and the other party agree to attempt mediation after attending your individual MIAMs, our partner mediator will support you through the process until you reach an agreement. Mediation gives you both the opportunity to make decisions yourselves, instead of leaving it to the court.

Apply to Court

If mediation is not appropriate, not agreed upon by the other party, or if the initial sessions do not resolve the issues, the mediator will issue your MIAM certificate. This certificate is required — you cannot submit an application for a Child Arrangements Order without it.

Your First Joint Mediation Session (90 mins - Included): If both you and the other party agree to try mediation following your MIAMs, you may be eligible for a free first joint session through the Government Voucher Scheme - but only if the other party qualifies for legal aid. If they do not, the first joint session will be chargeable at the mediator’s standard rate.

Your MIAM Certificate: If mediation isn’t suitable, the other party declines, or no agreement is reached during your first joint session (whether covered by the voucher scheme or paid for), the mediator will issue your MIAM certificate promptly.
